Classes at 8:00 PM Central begin on Tuesday, April 28th
Many of you may not know that, in addition to making music, I have worked in the wine business for over 30 years.
Most of that time was spent work for wine retailers of all sizes, and even owning a shop of my own for 5 years. My daily "Coffee and a Song" show has been really fun, and people seem to like the format. I thought about doing the same in the evening but with wine, but then thought it would be more fun to offer brief wine classes, and include a performance of a song with a wine theme to start each class.
Why the paid format instead of the "tip jar" model of the morning show?
I wanted to limit the number of attendees to 25, which will allow me to answer questions you post in the comment thread in real time. Of course, if for some reason you can't make it to the live class, the video will be archived on Facebook. And I will continue to answer questions posted, long after the class is over.
What will the classes be like?
The classes will be based on a Wine 101 class I developed in my shop. Very different from other beginners wine classes, the focus here is to teach consumers how to describe, select and learn about wine. Each of the six classes will be a short- about 20 minutes, not including the music and the question and answer session. The idea being to provide information in an easy to remember format. The goal here is for you to become more comfortable and successful at describing the wine you want at retailers and restaurants, both with or without assistance. I'll also touch on other areas like how to find good values, food/wine pairing and much more.
This is not a guided tasting!
While I hope we'll all be enjoying a glass or two during the session, to try to taste together would be difficult. It would be hard to ensure that we all had the same wine. And the wines that are that widely available are dull anyway!
How does this work?
Once you've paid the $40 tuition for the six classes, I'll invite you to join the "Wine and a Song" Facebook group. Classes will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 8:00 PM Central Time. Apologies to east coasters if 9:00 is a little on the late side. 6:00 on the west coast will give an opportunity for those working until 5:00 to attend.
What if I can't make it to the live session?
As I mentioned above, the videos will be archived for the group. Watch any time. I will continue to answer your questions in the comment thread. You can also feel free to PM me with questions. And, please...ASK QUESTIONS! You will not sound stupid and it not only helps everyone in the class, it makes the classes more fun!
